Unlocking the Angel’s Melodies
Ilmatar Choir invites you to experience the heavenly choirs of angels, singing of sinless souls and their serene existence. Listen to the melodies of divine secrets as they descend into the sapphire night, embracing our earthly world. Angels, both awe-inspiring and enigmatic, hold within them the mysteries of the universe, and their music resonates with our hearts.
In ‘Creation of Angel,’ Ilmatar breathes life into angelic songs from diverse orders, spheres, and traditions. We journey through the angel’s perspective and the human desire to encounter their celestial melodies. Our repertoire spans Europe and the Middle East, weaving exuberant alleluias with tranquil folk songs from Scandinavia. Eastern traditions find expression in the compositions of Ukrainian composer Momotenko-Levytsky and Polish composer Penderecki. We also present the monumental ‘Die Erste Elegie’ by Finnish composer Rautavaara, inspired by Rainer Maria Rilke’s poem of the same name.
Abeer Al Batal: A Voice from the East
Adding an enchanting touch of Middle Eastern mystique, Syrian singer Abeer Al Batal joins our choir. Together, we explore angelic music from ancient religions and cultures, encompassing Assyrian, Islamic, Chaldean, and Arabic traditions. In collaboration with the Culture Unlimited festival, Kamerkoor Ilmatar creates a harmonious fusion of voices from the East and the West.
