At 10:15 PM, saxophonist David Binney and pianist Chris Fishman take the stage for a compelling collaboration that highlights their boundary-pushing artistry. The night concludes with a joint performance bringing all the artists together in a powerful musical exploration.

David Binney is a saxophonist, composer, and producer known for his unique voice in contemporary jazz. Described by DownBeat Magazine as a “strikingly original composer and conceptualist” and praised by Stereophile as one of the most original minds in music, Binney has earned a place as one of the most innovative figures in the genre. Over his prolific career, he has released more than 25 albums as a leader or co-leader and has appeared on over 400 recordings. Binney has worked with iconic artists such as Knower, Chrissie Hynde, Gil Evans, Maria Schneider, and Norah Jones, and played a pivotal role as creator and producer for David Bowie’s Blackstar band. In addition to performing, Binney is a sought-after educator, teaching at prestigious institutions worldwide. His work has earned numerous accolades, including multiple wins in the DownBeat Critics Poll for Alto Saxophone.

Chris Fishman is a pianist, composer, producer, and sound designer whose artistry spans jazz, electronic music, and film scoring. Renowned for his bold versatility, Fishman has collaborated with a wide range of artists, including Pat Metheny, Flying Lotus, and Thundercat. He is a key contributor to the Netflix original anime series Yasuke soundtrack and serves as pianist in Pat Metheny’s Side Eye Trio, where his performances showcase his dynamic skills across multiple instruments. Fishman’s musical journey began in Southern California, leading him to the Manhattan School of Music, where he received a full scholarship to study jazz. His work exemplifies a fearless exploration of sound, making him one of the most exciting musicians of his generation.

The New European Ensemble (NEuE) is celebrated for its imaginative storytelling through contemporary music, often merging sound with other artistic disciplines such as film, theater, and visual art. Founded in 2009 in the Netherlands, the ensemble features Rada Ovcharova on violin, Emlyn Stam on viola, and Willem Stam on cello. Their performances have been praised for their vibrancy and accessibility, earning the prestigious Kersjesprijs in 2019. NEuE has collaborated with organizations like Amnesty International, the International Criminal Court, and The Hague’s Royal Theatre. The trio’s program for this evening includes works by Zaid Jabri, Seung-Won Oh, Willem Breuker, Kate Moore, Kinan Azmeh, Kaija Saariaho, Dai Fujikura, and Paul Wiancko, offering a diverse exploration of contemporary music.
