Mavericks: Seeing Without Seeing is an interdisciplinary programme bringing together music, poetry, and reflection. At its core is a collaboration between Syrian clarinettist and composer Kinan Azmeh, the New European Ensemble, and writer and speaker Ahmed Aboutaleb.

Azmeh’s music explores themes of migration, identity, memory, and resilience. Moving between composition and improvisation, his works give voice to experiences of exile and transformation, offering a deeply human perspective on displacement and belonging.

Ahmed Aboutaleb contributes poetic texts that open a reflective space within the concert, addressing questions of responsibility, freedom, and inner vision. His words act as a counterpoint to the music, inviting the audience to listen beyond sound alone.

The programme also includes the world premiere of a new work by Hawar Tawfiq, whose music invites deeper listening by approaching perception beyond sight. Together, the artists create a sound world in which music and language meet as instruments of connection and hope.
